CLI Search: Instant Docs!
Overview: Why is this cool?
As a dev, my local machine is a graveyard of notes, code snippets, and scattered docs. Finding that one obscure detail I wrote last month? A nightmare. qmd fixes this instantly. It’s a local search engine for all your text files, cutting through the noise like a hot knife through butter. No more context switching or wrestling with flaky desktop search tools!
My Favorite Features
- Blazing Fast Local Search: Seriously, no more waiting! It indexes everything right on your machine, giving you instant results without ever touching the cloud. Privacy and speed? Yes, please!
- CLI Native: For us terminal junkies, this is heaven. Seamlessly integrate search into your workflow without ever leaving your favorite environment. It just feels right.
- Versatile Document Indexing: From Markdown notes to code comments and meeting minutes,
qmdeats it all. Define your search scope once, and forget about it. It’s smart enough to handle whatever you throw at it. - TypeScript Goodness: The repo itself is in TypeScript – clean code, great developer experience (DX), and easy to peek under the hood or even contribute. A big plus in my book!
Quick Start
Got it running in literally minutes! If you have Node.js, it’s probably just npm install -g qmd and then qmd index to get your files ready. After that, qmd search 'your query' and BOOM! Instant power. Setup doesn’t get much simpler than that.
Who is this for?
- The Overwhelmed Dev: If your
~/Documentsfolder is a black hole andgrepisn’t cutting it anymore, you NEED this. Seriously, your future self will thank you. - Knowledge Base Hoarders: For those of us who collect every useful snippet and link locally,
qmdmakes it accessible. Stop losing those golden nuggets of info! - Privacy-Conscious Professionals: Keep your data your data. No cloud uploads, just pure, secure, local power. This is how local search should be.
Summary
Honestly, qmd is a no-brainer. It’s fast, local, and incredibly effective. This is going straight into my essential dev toolkit. Say goodbye to document chaos and hello to instant answers right from your terminal! Definitely shipping this into my daily workflow.
